The International Monetary Fund and the World Bank have published their evaluations for the economic progress.

“If I would evaluate the performance of the Albanian economy, I would say that it is satisfactory. If you see the basic indicators and the economic environment in the region, Albania has a positive increasing economic growth and employment. These are two key indicators”, declared Taseen Sayed, Director of the World Bank.

“The economic growth has accelerated and poverty has decreased. We expect the economic growth for this year to be at 3.5%, supported by the increased private consumption”, explained Hilda Shijaku, economist at the World Bank of Tirana.

The WB expects the economic growth to improve with 3.5% during the next year, and the public debt to get smaller. While Serbia and Albania are the countries with the highest decrease of the budget deficit for the region, WB notes that Albania has more bad loas.

When asked by journalists, the Chief of the WB in Tirana commented about the violent physical attack against the lebanese businessman, Fadi Mitri. “That was an unfortunate incident. We expect the government to continue with the reforms for improving the business climate and treat every complaint of investors in Albania”, Sayed added.

The Bank avoided comments about the changed winner of the Durres-Kukes road bid, and supported the project of the Ministry of Finances for a fiscal amnesty.
