Tusk: Albania and Northern Macedonia have done everything they were asked for EU accession negotiations

The President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, declared that the EU must open the negotiations with Northern Macedonia and Albania, but he warned that the decision cannot be taken any time soon.

During his meeting in Brussels with the Macedonian President, Stevo Pendarovski, Tusk said that there is only one decision to be taken: the negotiations should be opened, at the same line with the recommendation of the European Commission.

According to Tusk, Albania and Northern Macedonia have done everything possible to progress with the EU accession process.

However, the President of the Council underlined that not all member countries are prepared to take a decision in the upcoming days.

The European Commission has once again recommended opening the EU accession negotiations with Tirana and Skopje, but some sceptical countries, such as France, the Netherlands and Denmark, said that they are demanding more concrete results in the fight against corruption and organized crime.
