Top Story, opposition’s protest and judiciary reform

One week after installing a tent in front of the Prime Minister’s Office
and boycotting the Parliament, the Vetting Law became part of the
opposition’s party protest.

The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, declared that the Vetting Law can be done after Rama resigns and accepts to form a technical government, and after correcting seven Vetting Law articles, which passed without the opposition.

But what will happen with the judiciary reform. Will the Vetting Commission be established next week?

For this and other questions, on Top Channel’s political talk show, “Top Story”, hosted by Sokol Balla, were invited analysts Arjan Vasjari, Fahri Balliu, Alfred Lela, Agron Gjekmarkaj, Skender Minxhozi and Mustafa Nano.

Arjan Vasjari said that of Lulzim Basha’s declaration was damaging the protest.

“I see a connection of the protest with the judiciary reform. Mr.Basha damaged the protest with this declaration, because elections are no longer their priority. The opposition is not only against the Vetting Law. They are against seven articles of the law. Of these seven articles, the opposition has voted only the Special Prosecution Against Corruption. They attacked the Vetting Law, took it to the Constitutional Court, and attacked even the High Councils of Judiciary and Prosecution”, he said.

Agron Gjekmarjak said that Basha challenged Prime Minister Edi Rama with today’s declaration.

“I think that Basha challenged Prime Minister Edi Rama, by telling him they are ready to vote the judiciary reform and the vetting law if Rama is willing to allow a technical government, free and fair elections. The protest raised awareness among the people and brought down the myth that the opposition leader is not inspiring anyone. I think that the people answered to the appeal of Lulzim Basha”, he said.

Alfred Lela sees Basha’s declaration as normal, as long as the opposition is protesting for a major request, as he said:

“I don’t see any problem that they involved the vetting law in their protest, as long as they are making a major request, such as having the government resign and organize elections through a technical government”, Lela said.

Skender Minxhozi said that the Vetting Law went through all possible filters.

“It was appealed at the Constitutional Court. It was reviewed by the Venice Commission and passed all of them. A political party is now saying that the Vetting Law passed, but they want a technical government. They want to come to power first, and then let’s see what they can do with it”, he said.

Mustafa Nano said that the protest has no cause. He said that the Democratic Party request for the elections was just hypocrisy.
