14 million tourists are expected to rest this year in our country, according to government projections.

Minister of Infrastructure Belinda Balluku said that the figure could be even higher, in a meeting on the new tourist season and the approaches on security, hospitality, services and infrastructure.

“What we project is much more in number. So keep in mind that in 2023 we processed 7.2 million passengers at Rinas airport. Compared to 2019 when we processed 2 million passengers with great stretch and impossibility. We achieve this through a civil aviation strategy, as Prime Minister Rama has called it. 4 airports, starting from Kukësi, Tirana, Vlora and Gjirokastra, are or will be available in our territory, considering that Kukësi airport is operational”.

Balluku explained the progress of works at the country’s four airports and at the new port of Durrës in Porto Romano.

“Rinas airport in Tirana was the only one in the country with 13 thousand square meters of terminal. Today we have 40,000 square meters of terminals. We have 9 new parking spaces, 2 of which are intended for those planes that make transoceanic trips and all this happens only in Rinas”.

“During the month of May, two international competitions will be opened for two ports, one port by air and one port by sea. We open the international competition for the construction of the new port of Durrës in Porto Romano, thus starting a new era for the maritime industry.”

Minister Balluku added that on June 30, Thumanë-Kashar will be a passable axis, following which several other roads will be opened, including the Llogora mountain tunnel.

“The tunnel will be opened a day or two later than the motorway, as in my opinion is the pearl of the Albanian infrastructure. A 6 kilometer ‘long range’ tunnel that I would call a work of art also because geology has helped us there, totally different from the Murriz tunnel, although that tunnel will also be delivered within 2024, closing the Arbri road construction once and for all of”.
