In today’s protest in front of the municipality of Tirana, the opposition demonstrators once again demanded the resignation of the mayor Erjon Veliaj after several arrests of his directors for corruption and his involvement with the affair of the incinerator of Tirana.

Demonstrators pushed the police officers who were protecting the building, and what followed were clashes with the officers and tear gas fired by them.

After the attempt of opposition leader Klevis Balli to overcome the police cordon and enter the premises of the municipality, the protesters were able to forcefully remove the barrieras placed in front of the building.

In order to prevent the demonstrators entering the municipality, the police used tear gas, also calling on them to keep calm.

For several weeks, the democratic opposition has been protesting in front of the municipality against Mayor Veliaj, whom they consider corrupt.
