“Hospitals, construction and tourism evade taxes”

The General Tax Directory expressed strong suspicions on a possible tax evasion by private hospitals and health clinics.
“Only the Private Health Service sector at the Regional Tax Directory in Tirana make 4% of the total tax payers registered for VAT, and some of them keep declaring an annual turnaround of 2 million ALL”, Erjon Prifti says.
The authorities suspect that the construction and tourism industries are also evading taxes.
“These sectors have shown a very low compatibility with the law. They have avoided obligations and have not presented the right amount of activity”, Prifti declared.
The tax authorities appeal these companies to take their balance sheets back and correct them, or they will face strong punishing measures.
“Within June 30th 2013 they must correct their declarations, so that they can avoid penalizations”, Prifti declared.
For the first time after several years, the budget is facing a decrease of the tax revenues. On the first months of this year, the revenues were 30 million USD less than last year, especially with VAT.
