During the military parade, organized for the liberation of Belgrade, Serbian President Alexandar Vucic reiterated with pride that his country aims to access the EU by preserving close ties with Russia and china.

While the EU is reserved to comment about this, Hoyt Brian Lee, the US State Department official who inter-mediated the electoral crisis in Macedonia, was more direct during an economic forum in Serbia. He said that the countries that want to join the EU, must show this very clearly.

“You cannot sit on two chairs, especially when these chairs are far from each other”, the US high-level official declared, saying that this is not a norm in the international community.

Yee said for the VOA that the goal of the UN is that Serbia has progress, stability, safety and EU integration. “This is why they should work with the initiatives that take them closer to the EU. I propose to our partners in Serbia to ask what Russia is doing to help them join the EU”.

“I don’t think that giving diplomatic immunity for the personnel of the Russian humanitarian center would help Serbia reach its goal for EU accession”, said the US high-level diplomat.

The USA showed concern about a center of emergencies that Russia is managing in Nis, southern Serbia. Western groups and military analysts see it as a camouflaged military base that Kremlin established for observing US interests in Balkan.

The Russian center, initially opened in 2012, is very close to the 4000-troops peace-keeping force in Kosovo. 60 US soldiers are part of the international forces in Kosovo. Moscow asked for its personnel to receive diplomatic immunity, but they deny activities other than treating emergencies.
