Tirana Municipality restores 237-year-old church

With Christmas around the corner, the Municipality of Tirana announced that its gift to the Christian community will be the restoration of the Prokopi Church at the Tirana Artificial Lake.
“The famous Saint Prokopi Church once turned into a restaurant, now is back to the Church. But it still looks like a Soviet bar of the 70s and 80s. We decided to make the church look as it used to before, bringing back to its identity not only the community but the church as well”, said Mayor Veliaj.
The Municipality will also plant 1000 cypress trees, from the church to the Faculty of Geology, to bring back the 1000 Cypress Road.
“By restoring the amphitheatre, the WWII soldiers’ cemetery, the sportive terrains, the new alleys and 1000 Cypress Road, I think that we are creating a gem in Tirana”, Mayor Veliaj said.
The 1000 Cypress road is one of the first green monuments in the park, dating 1959, one year after the Park was built.
