President lashes politicians

Albanian President rose today above political forces with a harsh speech addressed to both political parties.

During a decoration ceremony that honored some of most noted people who contributed on the day that statue of the Albanian dictator was pulled down, the Albanian President gave a message to the political class.

The message was illustrated with actual elements, like the blocking of different infrastructure projects, the usage of low rhetoric, taxes and direct program confrontation, and appealed for a debate that serves to the citizen.

“We are at a very important moment, when people may feel disoriented, when small debates and without any substances dominate our being, our family and social environment, and also the political environment, which I truly appreciate. Knowing all of you personally, being almost fully informed on everybody’s life actions, are the things that form my appreciation for you. Everyone is working on his own position, but as I said, we could work together and grow the democracy levels. This is the moment to make an appeal to everyone. Maybe the word “appeal” has been overused. ‘Let’s make an appeal to this, an appeal to that. No, it’s an obligation! Every politician should feel obligated, because I do not believe that any of them has entered politics under duress. They have entered on their own will. But when you enter politics, minimally you must know how to be sincere. And I appeal all politicians to be sincere. To make real debates, and after debating, there must be results. This is the reason that continually, especially during these days, I have made appeals on May 8th elections. May 8th is the day of local administration renovation.” Topi said.

All democratic parties, according to democracy standards, should enter the race, respect the rules, accept the result and the citizens will feel that a stage has been closed and another one is starting. Those who got the citizen’s vote should start serving to the citizens. This service is not free, because the citizens are covered by dozens of taxes. It is not that politicians have our life, as citizens, in their hands. They are obliged to administer the taxes, because this is the rule of democracy. Everyone pays the taxes, accepts a given administration, a political vision, and then demands to know what was actually done.  That is why this appeal is very important for those who participate today on the electoral race, but mostly, for those who will be elected. And above all, for those that will be elected on municipal councils. We have testified that municipal councils have been blocked on many occasions, only for a caprice, after phone call coming from someone who says: ‘Don’t participate in that!’ and then the procedures get blocked, also blocking the city development. Actual Tirana’s ring road hasn’t changed since the communism; the last signature on Tirana’s ring road is that of the latest communist Prime Minister, Adil Çarçani. For not ending up in situations like these, we should put ourselves in the citizen’s position.  The politicians are there to serve to their citizens. And my appeal today is this: No more violence, only debate”, Topi emphasized.

“The civilized man debates, works with projects. The civilized politician confronts the projects, instead of giving promises for the moment. Today is the moment of presenting major projects, and Tirana, Durrës, Korça, Gjirokastra, Vlora, Shkodra… all these municipalities need major projects. Major projects make politicians into qualified men, men of vision.
That’s why it is reasonable that, starting on such predispositions, we need you to be present and demand this to the politicians. These and other reasonable presented propositions. I do not want to give another nature to this matter, but I was motivated by positive propositions to say these words, and these words goes mainly to appreciate your devotion, your career, the career of modest people who today have a great name”,  the President added.
