At a national conference focusing on education and professional Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke today about the country’s need for professionals in various trades.

Encouraging young people to follow professional education, the head of the executive stated that 57% of those who graduate in these fields are employed within 6 months, with good salaries.

“Today, 70% of the requests in Albania are for professionals or craftsmen, technical and higher education, while only 30% of the requests that the market has are for higher university education. Despite the fact that infrastructure coverage is still not guaranteed throughout the territory, 57% of those who graduate from these schools start work within 6 months and have good salaries. They don’t go to work with the minimum wage, which today is 400 euros, not 12,000 lek as it used to be,” said Rama.

Further, Rama said that the return of vocational education to a new trend is the objective of his government. He emphasized that the new funding will make it possible to requalify schools and boarding schools in professional education.

“I believe that with the new funding we have made available for professional education, we will cover all the need for reconstruction and retraining of schools and boarding schools in the country with optimal conditions.

Taking the example of neighbouring Montenegro, Rama added that Albania aims to take the first place for tourism in the region and to use this industry to increase wages and income. But he underlined that for this to happen, the quality of the service must be increased, so that the tourists who visit the country will return.
