Lower water level in Fierza, production interrupted

04/01/2016 00:00

The Fierza water level has dropped after the recent drought, which has
forced the Energy Corporation to stop producing and start importing
energy.

The Energy Regulation Entity foresees to import 50% of the energy requested by the OSHEE for supplying electricity to consumers. Recent data show that the current level of Fierza is 276.22 meters, from 296 that is the maximal quota. On the same period of one year ago, the hydropower plant in Fierza reached 293 meters, increasing this way the chances for floods.

But the water flow in Fierza have reached the lowest level in the past 10 years, 130 m3/sec. While Fierza has interrupted production, the two other hydropower plants, Koman and Vau i Dejes, are working with a reduced capacity.

In these conditions, the request of OSHEE will be completed by reducing the production of KESH to 400 KW.

180 KW will be produced by small hydropower plants while the rest through import.
