Tirana has 3300 deaths each year, causing a problem with the space for graves at its both cemeteries.

To address this issue, the municipality of Tirana has built the first mural cemetery.

The first bodies that were placed were those of the Italian soldiers who were killed in Albanian territory during the war. They will continue with older, abandoned graves.

Immigrants have shown more interest to move the remains of their ancestors.

Both Sharra and Tufina cemeteries have around 55,000 bodies. The mural cemetery has 438 graves ready to be used.
