Former Democratic Party personalities gather against current leader, Lulzim Basha

The reaction of Jozefina Topalli, an early Democratic Party’s figure and
former Parliament Speaker, was expected after Lulzim Basha left her
outside the list of candidates for the next elections.

“This is not the true Democratic Party. The list of candidates has just the family of Lulzim Basha, their businesses and their clients”, Topalli said.

She was joined by Arben Imami, former Democratic Party Minister of Defense, who said that the party forums must gather to discharge the person who is responsible for this.

“Basha has been the biggest help to Edi Rama. He is going to withhold the Democratic Party, and this is why we are here”, Topalli said.

“We cannot have Edi Rama leave the government by destroying the Democratic Party. On June 26th it will be very late. This is a losing list”, Imami said.

Both accused Basha of taking personal decisions, without consulting the forums.

Jozefina Topalli, a close collaborator of Sali Berisha for the past 20 years, didn’t give a direct answer to the question if she had consulted Berisha for this movement against Basha.

“Mr.Berisha knows all of my opinions. I have told him through the years”, Topalli said.

But is Jozefina planning to replace Basha?

“I don’t plan anything. The Democratic Party has give me everything, and I am grateful. That’s why I cannot see it divided by Basha for the interest of their clients, which make me be ashamed”, Topalli said.

Topalli and Imami were not clear about the path they are going to follow for their purpose to remove Basha before the elections, but several former Democratic Party leaders joined him, such as Astrit Patozi, Majlinda Bregu, Keltis Kruja and Ridvan Bode.
