The current attempt by the Albanian Judicial Appointments Council (KED) to fill vacancies in the highest Court of the country, the Constitutional Court, has again failed.

Three applicants withdrew from the race to sit on vacant constitutional seats, while 6 other applicants had deficiencies in the files submitted, including legal bans.

KED after the meeting the day before says that the applicants Klodian Rado, Prel Martini and Envi Hicka withdrew from the candidacy.

KED banned the candidacy for shortcomings of one or several criteria for Besnik Muci, Ardita Alsulaj, Vasil Bendos, Dedë Kasnec, Shaqir Hasanaj who had applied for the vacancies announced by the president and parliament.

To be functional the Constitutional Court needs a composition of 9 members. Three members are appointed by the President, three members are elected by the Assembly and three members are elected by the Supreme Court. Currently the Constitutional Court consists of only 4 constitutional judges.

This development means that the process of completing the constitution court will have to start from the beginning and it will take many more months for the functioning of the highest court of the country.
