Democratic Party: “Drug Traffic, top of agenda”

“I want to make it clear from this room that we will not withdraw from
the request for transparency in the Albanian Parliament. The drug
traffic issue is about us, the citizens, the country and democracy. It
is a vital matter that has to do with the government’s relations or not
with the organized crime”.

With this declaration, the Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, confirmed that for the opposition, revealing if the army’s infrastructure has been used for drug traffic or not, will continue to be on top of the agenda.

“This is not a problem that we created. This problem was created by official information that we and the government own. We didn’t create the wolf. We have raised an alarm and we will not stop for the truth. Our adversaries try in vain with their propaganda, as if we damage the image of the armed forces. We are not putting stains, but we are trying to remove stains based on the information that we have. Both sides have left there the drug traffickers”, Basha declared.

The opposition declared that the initiative of the Socialist Party to create an investigative committee is not serious, and they are not clear yet if the Democratic Party members will be part of this commission or not. The opposition is waiting an answer in Parliament from the Minister of Defense and the Prime Minister regarding the stance held by the drug information, by exploiting this way the army assets.

“Our question is addressed to the Prime Minister, who stands  behind this affair as director of the silence, as director of the desire to turn it into a comedy, and sometimes as the director of more noises about it, a known method for avoiding attention from the real scandal, which is treating the public opinion as an uneducated category”, Basha declared.

“His most wrong answer was given with the investigative committee that he decided to establish. They want to investigate why specialists of the Secret Services didn’t close their eyes. They want to give them the lesson of silence, and through them, they want to give a lesson to justice. This is a stance that can be held only by someone who has something to hide”, Basha declared.

By warning that the opposition will not be silent for this matter until it is fully verified, the Democratic Party leader raised the concern of what he calls anti-democratic revenge of the majority by passing laws that occupy independent institutions and the President, and that make our country take steps back in the European Union integration.

“This revenge is undoing the foundations of the Parliamentary republic, by trying to replace it with the oligarky of the Rama-Meta government. This is a very dangerous moment for the fate of democracy in our country. We will always stand on our feet. ‘Albania in protest’ is ready to turn into ‘Albania in revolt’ against the threats of democracy by the Rama-Meta oligarky”, Basha declared.
