European Enlargement Commissioner, Stefan Fule, will visit Tirana tomorrow on March 30th and will participate in a meeting that aims to evaluate the action plan submitted by Albanian authorities, regarding the 12 key priorities set on November’s EU opinion letter.

“Yes, it is true that commissioner Stefan Fule will visit Albania tomorrow. He will participate in a seminar in Tirana, organized to evaluate the action plan prepared by Albanian authorities regarding the 12 key priorities that European Enlargement Commission set on the opinion letter for Albania”, Fule’s spokesperson Natasha Butler says.

“Our goal is to stimulate the necessary reforms in order to make an efficient approach to these key priorities. Obviously, this could not be possible without a constructing dialogue. We have mentioned it very frequently and commissioner Fule will underline it again during Tirana’s seminar on the action plan. It is important to build trust and consensus between major political parties by using a productive dialogue on their approach to this country’s European agenda”, Butler underlined.

“With the 12 key priorities, the European Commission recommends full collaboration between political forces. Although not officially invited by the opposition or the ruling party, Mr. Fule will meet during his visit in Tirana with President Bamir Topi, Prime Minister Sali Berisha and opposition leader Edi Rama, to share with them his concerns about our country.

“As for our concerns about Albania, we have mentioned them many times, starting with January 21st tragic events, which are commissioner’s Fule main concerns. The political crisis; returning to the European agenda, especially the agenda on Albania’s reforms, where the above mentioned points are also included; the necessity of a responsible and constructive political dialogue between the ruling party and opposition on May 8th local elections preparations; their guaranty on collaboration for a transparent local election process, in full accordance to international standards. These are the basics for a potential candidate country like Albania”, Butler said.

In the beginning of this year, the commissioner on EU enlargement expressed his willingness to visit Tirana if he would be invited by each of the major parties.
