The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, said that one of his priorities
for the first 100 days of the second term will be fight against
cannabis, and removing Albania from the map of cultivating countries.

However, the incumbent Minister of Interior, appointed by the Democratic Party in cooperation with the Socialists, Dritan Demiraj, said that this will be achieved before the new government takes office in September.

“Mr.Rama will have no need to fight cannabis for the first 100 days, because the country will be already cleaned. His priority should be to further motivate the police by increasing their salaries”, Demiraj said.

For Demiraj, the Albanian Police has improved significantly even before he was appointed Minister. As for the involvement of the police with the cannabis cultivation, Demiraj says there has been no evidence so far.

“There has been no case of a police officer being involved with the cannabis cultivation. I have information, however, for lower grade agents who are currently under investigation”, the Interior Minister said.
