The technical Minister of Justice, Gazmend Bardhi, has fired the Breat
and Kavaja prison directors, Arif Dervishi and Durim Peja, accusing them
of using their institutions for political reasons, for participating in
electoral campaigns and for bad management of the institution.

But the General Prison Director said measures were taken to not include prisoners in the campaign, by suspending all permits.

“No prisoners have been part of political activities, because they were not allowed to get out of the institution, based on our order. This has been a precedent in past years too”, said Arjan hoxha, General Prison Director.

On an interview for Top Channel, Hoxha said that besides being involved in the electoral campaign, some directors and chiefs were fired for more serious violations, such as turning the cameras off on purpose, or having still on duty former police chiefs convicted of drug traffic, according to Hoxha.

2200 prisoners who are not affected by the decriminalization law will have the right to vote inside prisons.
