Top Channel’s investigative show “Fiks Fare” revealed last night how
palm oil is used above its allowed quantities in several dairy products,
and it is not even mentioned on the label descriptions.

For this reason, the General Director of the Food Authority, Dritan Sejko, ordered samples for all companies which process dairy products (butter, cheese, cheese cream), and will be tested by the Veterinary Food Safety Institution.

In fact, this is the same institution used by Fiks Fare to determine the quantity of palm oil in 20 products. Only one of them had it within the norms. 19 others had palm oil presence, and it was never mentioned on the label.

According to the National Food Authority, the food business operators who don’t declare palm oil in their products will be subject to administrative measures, based on the law.

According to doctors and specialists, palm oil is considered harmful for the health, if it is used in large quantities.

It is used in a series of other products, mainly sugar-based. Albania has imported 3720 tons of palm oil in 2016, and there are 24 companies which trade it in Albania.
