Hahn, declaration in Serbia: “Albania-Kosovo unification is not acceptable”

The European Commissioner for Enlargement, Johannes Hahn, met today with
the Serbian Foreign Minister, Ivica Dacic, and criticized the
declarations of Kosovo President, Hashim Thaci, and Albanian Prime
Minister, Edi Rama.

Both Rama and Thaci had declared that in case the EU perspective is closed, Albanians will be forced to unite with each other.

“We express disappointment with the declarations made by some leaders in the region. These declarations could be considered meddling with interior affairs and changing of borders. These comments are unacceptable, unnecessary and non-productive”, Hahn declared.

Commissioner Hahn went even further, when asked by journalists if this was a maneuver of Albania and Kosovo to pressure the EU.

“If someone thinks that these declarations could put us pressure, it would be a very big mistake, because it attacks the heart of this message. The EU has strong interests for peace, stability and prosperity in the region. This can be achieved only with good neighboring relations, when everyone works together for the development of our region”, Hahn said.
