American Chamber of commerce: “Tax pardon favors evaders”

Although the government is pardoning businesses from unpaid taxes, one
of the main business associations in our country, the US Chamber of
Commerce, is reserved about the government draft.
“Repeated fiscal amnesties favor business owners who avoid obligations, especially when the law says that the amnesty applies to taxpayers who give up their ongoing trials”, said Alketa Uruci from the AmCham.
The General Tax Director, Vasilika Vjero, said that the law pardons only taxes accumulated many years ago and that are impossible to be collected.
“This is not an amnesty law, but it deletes older obligations, and this is among the best law of its kind that the Albanian government has presented these years. It will breathe a new spirit inside the tax administration, which carries on burdens since 1994. We will also allow taxpayers with unpaid obligations to finally regulate their situation”, Vjero said.
The draft may pardon 660 million EUR of obligations that individuals and businesses owe to the government.
