MEP Fleckenstein: “Don’t give us the impression you misused our hard work”

The German MEP, rapporteur for Albania at the European Parliament, said
that the next week is decisive for the judiciary reform, since the
Vetting Commissions need to be approved in Parliament by both votes of the majority and opposition.

The German MP asked the Democratic Party to stop the parliamentary boycott, which blocks the Vetting process. This, according to Fleckenstein, would cause the accession negotiations to be postponed.

“I ask my colleagues and friends at the Democratic Party to continue doing what they think is necessary, but they should go back at work. This doesn’t come only from Knut fleckenstein, from Commissioner Hahn or from the High Level Representative, Federica Mogherini, or from the EU Ambassador in Albania, Mrs.Vlahutin. This is from all of us. You know that when we discussed the judiciary reform, we had to work hard to achieve the division of its commissions to 50% with 50%. My message to the DP colleagues is that they should not make us feel that they misused with this. The minimum is to go and work with the Commissions. Don’t stop the Vetting law and the Judiciary Reform”, Fleckenstein declared.

The rapporteur said that September is the time when the EU will decide if they will start the accession negotiations with Albania, depending on how the majority and opposition implement the Vetting Law and if the June elections have democratic standards.

“The opposition knows that four months before the elections the situation needs to be clear. I cannot see how the so-called technical government will bring an agreement on this matter in the next week”, he said.

Fleckenstein also made an appeal to former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.

“I really respect Mr.Berisha, former Prime Minister and former President of Albania. But I would ask him to not talk about Soros fairy tales”, the European MP said today.
