Xhafaj on Top Story: “DP boycott aims to block Vetting Law”

Fatmir Xhafaj, Socialist Party Member and Chairman of the Parliamentary
Commission for the Judiciary Reform, said it is not by chance that the
opposition started this protest right before the implementation of the
Vetting Law, by also boycotting the Parliament.

“It often seems calculated, intentional. We must not forget that every obstacle to this reform was brought by the Democratic Party. The protest is  just before the selection of the candidates, before the constitution of commissions, and it also comes with a parliamentary boycott “, he said.

As an example, Xhafaj brought the fact that the opposition did boycott the parliamentary commissions that start the vetting procedures, but not the investigative parliamentary commissions (such as the one for investigating the CEZ agreement), on which they have political interests.

Xhafaj admitted that the implementation of the Vetting law is questionable, given the new situation, but not without a solution.

“It will be difficult to implement it without the opposition in Commission. We will have to see for any possible solution”, he said.

Xhafaj compared a similar protest of the Socialist Party, when they were in opposition.

“We protested after the elections. We did go to elections while we were accusing the government for killing four protesters. And we won. This is what this opposition must do”, he said.
