Mogherini from Washington on VOA: “Political unity for implementing Judiciary Reform”

Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for
Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, is attending an official visit in
Washington, from where she declared that politicians in Albania must
show unity for implementing the judiciary reform.
Mogherini said for the Voice of America that her visit in USA was to get to know the stance of the new US administration on international matters, for which EU and USA have been cooperating. One of these topics was Western Balkan.
Mogherini said the unanimous vote for the Judiciary Reform is a historic step for the country, but now they should start with its implementation.
“Certainly, it is important to show unity and determination for implementing the judiciary reform. I trust that Albania can find the institutional force to do such a thing, because I know how important this reform is for Albanians. We all think that it is decisive to progress with the EU”, Mogherini said.
According to Mogherini, Albania’s EU integration path is open if the reform is implemented. “I know that this is not a favorite sport in Albania”, the Chief European diplomat joked, referring to the difficult political relations in Albania and problems with national unity.
“But when it is about the citizens’ interest, it is a necessity”, she added.
During her visit in Washington, Mogherini expressed the message that cooperation with Western Balkan is a priority for the EU.
