The NATO Parliamentary Assembly started today at the Palace of
Congresses. The Albanian Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati, chose to hold
the opening speech in Albanian.

He underlined the main challenges of NATO, starting from security in Eastern Countries, terrorism and the refugee crisis. To better answer these challenges, Bushati said that NATO should implement the decisions undertaken at the Wales summit, and they should progress even further with the Warsaw summit.

“NATO must increase its presence and defense abilities in the Eastern ends and the Mediterranean”, he added.

As for terrorism, the Albanian Foreign Minister said that the recent attacks in the EU show that there is a strong connection between national and international security.

Bushati said that NATO and the EU should get stronger, especially for the refugee crisis, and valued the accession of Montenegro, in order to avoid the Russian influence in the region.
