PM Rama on CNN: ” I am against Trump because USA doesn’t belong only to itself”

The Prime Minister underlined that the USA is a world leader, and he added that Trump is a danger not only for the USA.

CNN: The Prime Minister of Albania says the election of this candidate from the Republicans Party would damage the relations with his country. Why did you say this and what it really means?

PM Edi Rama: The USA are a shiny city on a hill for us, but the perspectives that we hear from Donald Trump are concerning and damage what the USA represent to us.

CNN: You must certainly know that diplomatic courtesy means that foreign leaders don’t comment on other countries’s elections. But you seem to be determined that this is more important than this protocol.

Edi Rama: I did not comment on the elections. I simply stated something as I understand it. I am not the only one saying this. Other country leaders in Europe have expressed the same concerns. The USA are a leader country and too important to belong only to themselves. In our eyes, the US is a world leader that we follow as an inspiring model, a model built on values and principles which Albania has fought for, and which have made America great.

CNN: If Trump becomes candidate of the Republican Party, it will be very complicated for everyone who have expressed this fear.

Edi Rama: God Forbid! I believe he would hurt the USA and the democratic world too, since he will be forced to do some of the things he is promising. And this would be very harmful. I hope he will be able to learn more about the world, more about Muslims, and learn that there are people that despite their beliefs and ethnicity, can live with the pride and values which America represents, and that they defend these values even by sacrificing their own children in wars they fight by America’s side.
