The Saint Peter and Pavel church, with murals painted around 1843, has been robbed 15 times so far, and local residents admit nothing is left inside for thieves to take.

They want at least this cult object, so close to their life and tradition, to be saved from total destruction.

Petro Dedi, one of the residents, says that once there used to be 24 churches around the area, and this is the last one remaining.

The village has no more than 40 residents today, all senior citizens who are unable to restore or protect the church.

Katerina Telo, resident of the village, says that their village has no more workers who can fix even small problems with the roof.

After the fall of the communist regime, this church had 25 small icons and 8 bigger ones. Foreign visitors who are found hiking in the mountainous tracks towards the church, say the monument was a surprise for them.

Milja De Zeart, from Netherlands, said that she and her friends were surprised to see this monument on their hike, and they’d love to not be the last ones to see it.
