The beach of Velipoja is the biggest tourist area in the northern
Albanian coastline. More than 50,000 persons visit this beach, and this
number triples in the weekend. Velipoja is 25 km from the city of
Shkoder, and has a 12 km long coastline.
The negligence of the local administration for cleaning the beach has affected this region as a tourist attraction. The new leaders of the commune say that they have initiated a quick action for removing the garbage that damages tourist values.
Meanwhile, the recent investments for the Velipoje beach, like the new promenade and new paved segments in the center have created another image. The tourist region is extending with the new road that connects Velipoja with Baks Rrjolli, an are known for its clean beaches.
