US independence “unites” Albanian politicians

US Embassy in Tirana celebrated a little earlier this time the 235th anniversary of the
Independence Declaration, adopted by the US Continental Congress on July
4, 1776.

Different to other years, the ceremony was not held in US territory, but in the center of Tirana, at the National Art Gallery.

US ambassador Alexander Arvizu greeted his guests at the door for several minutes, among them many famous politicians and people of the media, most of whom have established friendly relations with Mr. Arvizu, regardless the fact that he has been serving his duty in Albania for only seven months.

The ceremony was full of people who have something to offer to the cameras. Prime Minister Berisha and opposition leader Edi Rama tried to stay as far as possible from each other, but another lack of communication, not surprising at all, was noted between the former Socialist Prime Minister Fatos Nano and current Socialist Leader Edi Rama.

An apparently important conversation went on between Lulzim Basha and Ilir Meta, bot of them awaiting important decisions from Albanian courts, one from the Electoral College, the other from the Supreme Court.

Despite the strong contrasts that are frequently seen in the Albanian politics, one thing seemed sure: the country has a strong ally, the United States of America. And this was reinforced by the speech of US ambassador, Alexander Arvizu:

“The United States of America is and will always remain a strong supporter of Albania and the Albanian people. USA is by your side, while you continue your efforts to building a strong and righteous society. A society that can realize the full potential of Albania, where reasonable aspirations and expectations will be realized, where the hope is alive and dreams will come true”, said ambassador Arvizu.

The big number of guests in the US ceremony could not impede one to notice the movements between the politicians and ambassador Arvizu, who held a longer conversation with Prime Minister Berisha and afterwards with the opposition leader Edi Rama.

Their gestures could not tell if the current post-electoral situation was part of the conversation, but it will be after the 4th of July, when the day that will give the final decision for the Mayor of Tirana will be very near.
