The US Embassy condemned the violence that was seen today in Albania’s Parliament.

In a special declaration, the Embassy says that the throwing of smoke grenades in Parliament was unacceptable.

“The US Embassy supports the citizens’ right to protest peacefully, but damaging the public property and throwing smoke grenades in Parliament is unacceptable.

“The Albanian people must not be surprised that their politicians are fighting each other. This means that the judiciary reform is finally being implemented. The Vetting Commission will soon have their first results. The Prosecutor General who refused to prosecute politicians is now gone. Soon there will be the creation of the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and the National Bureau of Investigation, which will prosecute any high-level official. Albanian citizens are looking forward to seeing justice, and politicians are afraid”, says the declaration of the US Embassy.
