Top Channel: no premade election video spots

One of OSCE ODIHR critics on Albanian central elections 2009 was the media coverage of the election campaign.

The report noted the lacking of journalist reports, because media broadcasted only the videos created by the political parties themselves.

To correct what was criticized and to offer impartiality and editorial independence, Top Channel has decided to not admit political parties’ videos during this campaign.

On the official day that launched the electoral campaign, Top Channel informed the electoral headquarters of both main political forces, Socialist and Democratic parties, and also notified the respective domestic and foreign observing authorities, ODIHR’s observing mission and main diplomatic missions in the country.

Since Top Channel has decided to follow the electoral campaign through its reporters, cameramen and journalists, on the letter addressed to the main parties, Top Channel requires to be notified on the electoral agenda of each party.

Top Channel believes that this decision fulfills the professional obligation for impartial information in function of transparency for the citizens.
