Tirana, Skanderbeg Square plan changed

Tirana Municipality is starting the works at the “Skanderbeg Square” for returning it to the previous state.

The citizens’ hardship in the tightened traffic after the first project, for a city center dedicated only to pedestrians, has gone astray.

The project that belonged to the Municipality led by Edi Rama will not exist anymore, and the new works will be for returning the square to the cars again.

“We are working for regulating and paving it, and for the green areas. The paving will be made in the areas that will be used for the cars, and then will be the center, which will have all signs for urban and private transportation. The green areas will be developed in the center and the areas that have nothing to do with traffic”, declared Taulant Zeneli, Director of the Working Services for Tirana Municipality.

According to Zeneli, these works needs an urgent intervention, because the engineers are reviewing new opportunities for long term  interventions, which shows that they will not implement the recent plan, for which were held several competitions.

It seems that now there will be other competitions for the new project and its realization.
Earlier these months, the Tirana Municipality started consulting for the urban plan of the city, although this was already prepared and had spurred strong debates between the Municipality and the Ministry of Public Works, what made it fail with the test at the Regulatory Council of the Territory.
