The Institution of Statistics says that the number of book readers has dropped significantly in Albania. One third of the population has not read a single book during the last year.

Antonio Cikollari, a library worker, said  that young people are reading less and less. Those who buy the good books are averagely aged 30 to 40 years old.

From 2.8 million Albanians, only 44,000 have read more than 10 books a year. 102,000 have read 5 to 10 books.

Some of them who were interviewed by Top Channel admit that smart-phones take most of their free time, rather than reading books. Others respond that they would like to, but they don’t have enough time during the day.

In the EU, the number of readers is also dropping. Residents also keep spending less on books and more on food, clothes and accessories.
