Police violence has been a great concern for the internationals, but
this time it was denounced not only by the Ombudsman, but also by the
General Prosecutor, Ina Rama.

They have taken as example the violation of a person. Ombudsman explains in a long recommendation addressed to the General Prosecutor, the General Chief of Police and the General Director of Prisons that during the arrest of the 40 year old R. Haxhiraj, police forces have used excessive and inhuman violence, despite the fact that during his arrest, Haxhiraj was not in possession of arms or other dangerous objects, and has not resisted to the police.

The Ombudsman underlined that the process of hiding this violence is more serious than the crime. The victim was sent to several hospitals, and while being under security measures in the Serious Crime Court, he declared that the wounds in his face were result of police brutality.

The victim asked to contact the Ombudsman, but this right wasn’t granted to him. The Ombudsman emphasized the indifferentism of all state institutions, from the Police to the Court, the Prosecution, the hospitals and prisons, who failed to denounce this violence.

The reaction of the General Prosecution was immediate. General Prosecutor Ina Rama requested full commitment of the prosecution and police agents for notifying the authorities, and also to actively help them in finding the proofs for arresting the authors.

“Otherwise, prosecutors and police officers will take responsibility, according to the law”, the General Prosecution Ina Rama added.
