Retired doctors in Saranda are volunteering at their local hospital to cover the need of specialist doctors.

The town’s well known pediatric doctor, Minella Nini, retired seven years ago, but today he is one of the two doctors volunteering.

“No harm can come from work. I was in perfect health when I retired. People here need more than two doctors. Many are retired doctors. We will work for as long as we can”, he said.

The hospital Director, Tajar Lako, says that the hospital has a 200 member staff, but only 27 doctors, many of which are retired.

The retired doctors cover cardiology, paediatrics, haematology, gastroenterology, infection, nephrology and other specialities.
