President Topi: Turkey, strategic ally

The Albanian President, Bamir Topi, declared that Albania and Turkey are
strategic allies in the region and that they enjoy excellent relations.

On the second day of the visit in Turkey, where the head of the Albanian State was invited by his Turkish homologue, Abdullah Gül, President Topi participated at the Joint Council of the Turkish-Albanian business in Istanbul.

“The Albanians that live in Turkey connect us even more. The attention of the political class to business is indispensable. Politics must create legal facilities for business, in order to encourage its development”, Topi declared.

Intensifying the relations

Although Kosovo and Albania have been recently involved in a scientific and political debate on the stance that history must keep towards the ottoman period, Turkey considers Albania as a strategic ally in Balkans.

This was confirmed during the official visit that the Albanian President, Bamir Topi, attended in Ankara. During the joint press conference, President Abdullah Gül declared that Albania is Turkey’s ally in Balkan, and keeps cooperating in this context for extending peace and stability all over the region.

“It is Turkey’s vision to integrate Albania in the Euro-Atlantic institutions. Albania and Turkey have identical approaches on the international issues”, the President Abdullah Gül declared.

Topi declared that the relations between Albania and Turkey are considered excellent.

“We have built these relations based on an historical foundation, but on the other hand, we have also built modern relations”, President Topi declared.

Both Presidents spoke about the intensification of the Economic Relations. With some strategic companies in telecommunication, heavy industry, construction and education, Turkey remains an important economic partner for Albania.

In this official visit, President Topi was accompanied by the Albanian First Lady, Teuta Topi, and an official delegation. After the meetings with the President Abdullah Gül, Topi also met the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Cemil Çiçek.
