President Topi: Berisha invents votes

The Albanian President has directly answered back to the Prime Minister Berisha as never before.

During his press release, the President did not make any reference to “voices” or “individuals”, as in previous reactions. He clearly states that he will clarify his position regarding the comments that the Prime Minister has launched against him.

And the position of the President, according to this press release, has been and will always be the Constitution, far from direct or indirect political influences.

“Every effort or insinuation that attempts to give a political position to the President, is wrong, speculative and immoral”, says the declaration of the Head of the Albanian State.

The tone of this reaction heats up when he considers Berisha’s attacks as “undignified and denigrating”.

The President explains that he has never wanted to answer to these accusations, due to his responsibility for maintaining the democratic stability in the country.

The President added that these accusations are a political game conducted by the same actors, with the same apolitical behavior for more than one decade.

The Albanian President positions himself on the side of the citizens and international partners when he says that together with them, he has been and is still waiting for a political reflection and for concrete measures, but unfortunately, the political behavior remains the same.

“The individuals and political institutions who have the duty to implement the Constitution and the laws in a systematic way, allow themselves to create nonexistent situations, to invent votes and political opponents, to create artificial tension between the citizens and the institution of the President, and also to remove the attention from the vital need that our country has for concrete reforms and results, in order to fulfill the standards of EU integration”, Topi declares.

The President also adds that this is a staged and pointless debate.

As for May 8th elections, the President declared that there have been scenarios staged by partial vote managers.

In this  same declaration, the President refused to make any comment regarding the need of making Constitutional changes.

He also reminds his comments before the latest Constitutional changes of April 2008, according to which, the political interests of the moment prevailed upon the need of having functional and stable democratic institutions, based on the Constitutional principle of sharing and balancing power.
