The Polish Foreign Minister, Radostav Sikovski has attended a meeting
with the Albanian Foreign Minister, Edmond Haxhinasto, discussing the
local elections performance and the criterions that Albania has to
accomplish for taking the candidate status.

“Based on the observations made on these elections, I can say that the methods are correct, transparent and we do not have any substantial objection. I will support Albania’s aspiration for EU integration, but on the other hand, I will demand the fulfillment of all requirements. You must have national unity and consensus for this important process. The realization of these conditions for joining EU demand a calm dialogue and cooperation between parties”, Shikovski declared.

Poland will take the Presidency of the European Union from this July, and Shikovski declared that Albania will be part of the European Union three weeks after taking the candidate status.

“Only three weeks after taking the status of a candidate country, Albania will become member of EU, and we know that this process is connected with the fulfillment of these conditions. But I am convinced that when Albania will realize this, there will be no delays for the negotiation. I can say this with full responsibility: Poland will be ready to start the negotiations”, the minister declared.
