Orikum, alarm on illegal constructions

The greatest part of this beach is private land, and there have been many constructions without permits or that have exceeded the legal criteria.

However, such buildings have been built everywhere by challenging the state authorities.

Besides the illegal buildings, a lot of kiosks and mini-piers have started to destroy the coastline in this part of the Bay of Vlore.

Different to other areas of the coastline, where the local administration is not taking measures against illegal constructions that damage the sea and beaches, the new Mayor of Orikum who has just started his mandate promised to demolish all illegal buildings and to clean the beach area.

The situation has become concerning even for the tourists who come in this beach for its particularities. They also demand intervention.

The situation with legal constructions deteriorated especially in the beginning of the electoral campaign and until now, when many heads of communes or mayors have not started their work.

Many other persons have profited by the absence of government authorities for damaging private and public spaces with constructions that are degrading the Bay of Vlore.
