The environment projects that foreign donators support in Albania have
often been made without any connection or coordination with the Ministry
of Environment.
The Minister of Environment, Fatmir Mediu asked the respecting ministries and foreign donators to cooperate in the years to come through a coordination strategy.
“What I asked from the donators is a detailed analyze of the investments for different projects and their impact, in order to increase our mutual responsibility towards our tax payers and the tax payers of foreign countries. All these investments held in different sectors have a responsibility on our behalf to further implement this strategy. We have asked coordination and a stable relation with the donators”, Mediu declared.
Different donators have often financed the same organization or different organizations for the same project. According to the Ministry, this phenomenon loses the productivity and leaves room for abuses. 7.6 million EUR is needed only for administering waste materials in the three years to come.
But other millions of Euros will be needed for administering waters, forests and for reducing air pollution and biodiversity. This operation plan that is being undertaken by the Ministry of Environment aims to identify all problems and coordinate the measures that should be taken in terrain by all state or local structures in the country.
