Lajcak: Expecting dialogue from Albania

EU Special Envoy for Albania, Miroslav Lajcak, appealed all political parties to find the way of dialogue.

Speaking from Washington, during the conference “Balkan Countries Perspective” at the John Hopkins University, Lajcak underlined that EU expects to see real efforts from the Albanian political class.

“We are ready to offer our help, but we want to see real efforts. Without dialogue, we will see only tensions, as it happened after the local elections. If there will be dialogue, it will be valued by EU”, Lajcak declared.

The EU official suggested all parties to address international institutions for their disagreements, as all EU countries do.

“When political leaders are unable to find an agreement, we ask opinions from international institutions like ODIHR and Commission of Venice”, Lajcak declared.

He underlined that Albania, as all other countries of the region, must engage as soon as possible to implement integration reforms.

“Albania has lost too much time and this is the right moment for regaining it. Although enlargement is not in the EU agenda, Brussels will continue to encourage reforms and see the progress of Balkan countries towards EU”, Lajcak declared.
