Krichbaum: “EU negotiations, yes to Macedonia, no to Albania”

An official of Merkel’s government said a few days ago for the daily German newspaper “Welt” that the Foreign Ministry is in favour of opening the accession negotiations.

His name is Michael Roth, Minister of State, the only one that was by Rama’s side during his difficult visit in Germany.

However, the conservatory Gunther Krichbaum responded to the Social-Democrat by saying that the Parliament is the one voting for the negotiations. Krichbaum  is the Head of the Commission for Europe at the German Parliament.

Krichbaum even says that Germany is in favour of opening the accession negotiations for Macedonia, not for Albania, which would be a severe hit about our country. The German MP said that opening the accession negotiations with Albania is premature.

“Albania has started important reforms, such as the judiciary, but they need to be implemented properly”, Krichbaum said. “This goes especially for the fight against corruption and organized crime, which often reaches the highest government circles.”

He didn’t mention concrete names but said that the European Commission has given Albania more faith than they should.
