The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, said on Twitter that the democracy index published by the “Economist Institute Unite” classified Albania a hybrid regime, one step before authoritarianism.
According to Basha, this is due to the fact that the government is not functional, and corruption is reaching high levels.
The opposition leader said that Albania has dropped three places, from 76th to 79th, and the only responsible for this is the government’s performance.
According to Basha, there are several reasons why Albania ranks so low on the “EIU Index “.
“The Democracy Index of @TheEIU classifies Albania a hybrid regime one step away from authoritarianism, due to the lack of a functioning government, elections irregularities, high corruption, poor rule of law and lack of an impartial judiciary.
“The government’s legal initiatives to suppress the freedom of speech are intended to manipulate and conceal the truths of the bad government performance”, Basha declared.
