Gjirokaster Police has started to inspect the “hottest spots” for the traffic of narcotic substances.

Police helicopters started flying over areas such as Sopot, in Lazarat village, where antinarcotics agents suspect that great quantities of cannabis sativa are being cultivated. Although the first director of Fier Police District, Emri Vata, does not admit the involvement of helicopters in such operations, he confirms that the Police has intensified operational measures. According to him, these measures are divided in three phases: making aware, monitoring and hitting. According to him, the operation is focused on the second phase, that of monitoring the areas.

A strict inspection is being performed in national roads, and as result, Gjirokaster Police has been able to block three drug     deliveries only in the last two weeks, and has seized 270 kg of narcotic substances, taking under arrest three persons from different towns.

For intensifying the measures, Lazarati, as the hottest spot for several years in the Gjirokaster district, this year will not be excluded by police operations. The head of Gjirokaster Police, Emri Vata, spoke about the work done up to now by his agents, whose objective is to hit the cultivation and traffic of narcotic substances.

“The State Police is doing everything possible for minimizing the areas where there is cultivation of narcotics. I can say that we have good results about this. A priority for the State Police and that of Gjirokaster will be the war against cultivation and then against trafficking. Only in the last three days we have successfully concluded three operations that enabled us to seize 270 kg of narcotic substances, and also to arrest six persons from different cities”, said Gjirokaster Chief of Police, Emri Vata.
