Harsh debates on voters lists

In a few minutes period, Socialist Party deputies have stormed many Tirana Municipal Division offices, requesting access to voting list modifications effectuated after March 8th. Election Code provides that no new voters are allowed to enter the list after this date, except of extraordinary cases.

The socialist pretence, mentioned in all recent public announcements, is that fake voters are being registered in order to manipulate May 8th local elections.

Socialist deputies Erjon Braçe and Ilir Gjoni exchanged harsh arguments with Ilir Kokona, the Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI) candidate in the area covered by Municipal Division no.3,

“There is a one month time limit. This is all we are asking for. Why can’t you do this? I want to know how many new names have been added to the list.” Braçe declared during the debate.

“We requested Municipal Division no. 3 a verification access to these lists, but it was denied”, deputy Ilir Gjoni added.

Problems have also been identified in Municipal Division no.6, also controlled by SMI, where socialist deputy Saimir Tahiri was present for the same purpose..

“Can you give me the list? I want the list.” was Tahiri’s request to the municipal division employee, who replied on her behalf: “No, you have to make a written request.”

“They are bringing electoral mercenaries to add votes to the Democratic party and SMI” Tahiri explained after the failed attempt to access the list.

The protest in this Tirana Municipal Division ended with three socialist local supporters escorted to the police.

Meanwhile, socialist deputy Namik Dokle was present at Municipal Division no. 11, in Lapraka, Eduard Shalsi at Municipal Division no.8 and Ledi Shmaku at no. 10.

“We are determined to protect Albanians rights to free and honest elections.” socialist deputy Shalsi declared.
