Hahn: “More funds for media freedom in Western Balkans”

Hahn said that laws are not enough for protecting press freedom and journalists, but also an efficient and independent judiciary which guarantees full implementation of these laws.
Hahn made these comments in the opening ceremony of the two-day conference: “EU-Western Balkans, the day of the media”.
“The EU strategy in this region has created a new dynamics with a European perspective, and the enlargement process has a new positive pace, but unfortunately this is not the case about press freedom”, the Commissioner said according to Radio Free Europe.
Hahn was convinced that the media could contribute for reconciliation in Western Balkans, going against stereotypes and polarization.
The Prime Minister of Macedonia, present in this meeting, spoke about fake news, which still keep encouraging conflicts.
