Government raising wages and pensions

The government gathered for the second time during this week, in a
meeting that went on in parallel with that of the Socialist National
Assembly, for taking the decision about raising wages and pensions.

According to Prime Minister Sali Berisha, this decision that is being taken for the sixth consequent year goes against the policies in Europe for decreasing or freezing the growth of wages and pensions. In his long analysis, Berisha argued why Albania is able to afford this decision. According to the head of the government, everything is merit of the economic model that Albania followed after the Democratic Party came into power on September 2005.

Prime Minister Berisha declared that Albania has proved in these years that the model of low taxes, smallest government administration in the region, of infrastructure investments and privatization of state companies has resulted with an economic growth even in a time of global crisis. He added that this model helped in the creation of new jobs and for doubling the budget revenues in only 4 years.

“This economic model has made possible the constant and annual increase of wages and pensions. Without this performance and success of the economic model, it would have been unimaginable to raise wages and pensions”, said Berisha.

The Albanian Prime Minister declared that different to the policy that was followed by the Socialists, his government has never taken loans for increasing wages and pensions. Berisha rejected the declarations of the opposition that the country is on the brink of a financial catastrophe, due to the policies that were followed, one if which is increasing wages and pensions.

“The claims that we are on a brink of a catastrophe are cruel as much as they are unreal. It is painful to see that the adversaries oppose even wage and pension increases”, Berisha added.
