Free trade negotiations

Albania is starting the EU free trade negotiations in disadvantage,
since the authorities have not decided the final propositions for the
coordination with the business interest, which will be sent to Brussels
for the export quotas.

“For the time that has remained, it will be difficult to make concrete propositions for the protection of the Albanian business”, declared Bardhi Sejdarasi, from “Business Albania”.

A few months ago, Croatia made a proposition that might leave the Albanian exports out of the market. The Vice Minister of Economy, Eno Bozdo, underlines that this is only a proposition.

The Minister of Economy declared that they will also send their propositions on Albania’s behalf, as a response to the Croatian request. But the entire process seems in chaos, since our business is not as involved as for protecting its interests in these negotiations.

“We have sent the written information, but until now, we have had no official reaction. The matter will be negotiated, and it would be great for the domestic industry to be present”, Bozdo declared.

Croatia has officially submitted a proposition at the secretary that supervises the free trade agreements with the EU and the region, asking for the Albanian export VAT to be 70% before having the origin certification recognized. This proposition damages all Albanian exports, most of which come from active processing industries – whose work is based on the raw materials – by not allowing them to receive the origin certificate and as result, to be charged when they enter in the EU.
