The European Parliament apologized for the unpleasant incident that
happened in the meeting of the European Parliament with the Albanian
delegation. The Albanian flag used by the European Parliament had the
star that was used during the communist regime.

François Brunagel, director of the European Parliament Protocol addressed a letter to the Albanian Ambassador at the European Union, Mrs. Mimoza Halimi, where he apologized for using the wrong flag during yesterday’s session in Brussels.

“We want to assure you that there has been no intent to offend anyone and the wrong flag was put by an unfortunate mistake. In all previous meetings of this kind we have used the right flag and we assure you that this big mistake will not happen again”, the letter says.

The Albanian Parliament decided to remove the communist star from the national flag in 1992.

The images denounced also in Top Channel’s program “Fiks Fare” made the news in many web pages.

The flag with the communist symbol was placed behind the table where Eduard Kukan and Fatos Beja were sitting.
