Trepan residents, Berat district, protested against an ammunition
dismantling site that has been established near their living area.

Residents say that the explosions have damaged crops, fruit trees, have killed livestock and damaged their homes.

Each day, dozens of trucks unload missiles and mines that are later eliminated with explosive. The dismantling area used to be a corn field, now unusuable. The residents are concerned for the consequences of these explosions. Many buildings have been damaged, but there are also many dangerous chemical elements in the air and land.

After several complaints, the residents blocked the road for impeding army trucks to unload the ammunition. There have been harsh debates between the residents and military personnel, who tried to explain why these explosions are not dangerous.

The reeve of the village declared that he has notified the respective institution about the situation, since there are big damages in the fruit trees and livestock.

The village where the explosions are being handled is 10 km far from the city of Berat, where blasts are also frequently heard.
